Leslie Townes "Bob" Hope, KBE, KC * SG, KSS (May 29, 1903-- July 27, 2003), was an English-born American comedian, vaudevillian, actor, vocalist, athlete, author, and dancer. With a career spanning almost 80 years, Hope showed up in over 70 movies and shorts, consisting of a series of "Road" movies co-starring Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour. Along with hosting the Academy Awards fourteen times (even more than any other host), he appeared in several stage productions and tv roles and was the author of fourteen publications. The tune "Thanks For the Memory" is commonly considereded as Hope's trademark tune.
Celebrated for his long career executing United Service Organizations (USO) shows to captivate active service American military workers-- he made 57 trips for the USO between 1941 and 1991-- Hope was proclaimed a titular pro of the United States Armed Forces in 1997 by act of the united state Congress.
Hope took part in the sports of golf and boxing, and had a little stake in his hometown baseball team, the Cleveland Indians. He was married to performer Dolores Hope (nee DeFina) for 69 years.
