10 Best-Selling Video Games Ever
Number 10
Coming in at tenth place is Call of Duty, Black Ops. You probably guessed at least one was gonna make this list. The first person shooter may be past its heyday, but sales for the game have remained consistently high. Populated mostly by angry twelve year olds, the community has died off a little in recent years. Black Ops comes in with 26.2 million copies sold.
Number 9
Here in ninth place is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Yeah. This game got a lot of sales. The successor to Call of Duty: Black Ops turned out to be the beginning of the series’ demise, with bland gameplay which was incomparable to the excitement of Modern Warfare 2. Incredibly, this game managed to just sneak in above its predecessor with 26.5 million copies sold.
Number 8
At number eight we’ve got Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. In this game you play as CJ, a no-nonsense gangster on a quest to do gang stuff – like stealing cars, stealing aircraft, and even stealing hearts.
The series is still alive to this day, and this 2004 release sold over 27.5 million copies.
Number 7
At number seven we have Wii Play. A launch title for the original Nintendo Wii, this game had you compete in a number of different family friendly mini-games. It made extensive use of the Wii’s often janky motion control capabilities, and to date is the only game that allows you to race a cow. Despite fairly average reviews, Wii Play sold more than 28 million copies.
Number 6
Coming in at sixth place is Diablo 3. From the creators of World of Warcraft, the RPG game sold 30 million copies on PC, MAC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Despite its huge sales, fans were left a little disappointed with the series’ third instalment, as it failed to live up to its hype, and its predecessor is still widely regarded as the best game in the trilogy. Blizzard still made that sweet sweet money though!
Number 5
Here at number five we’ve got the imaginatively named New Super Mario Bros. The little plumber hopped in to our lives in 1985, and there’s no sign of him disappearing any time soon. Joined by his brother Luigi and some weird mushroom-looking toad things, in this game, players are challenged with the task of jumping on Goombas and head-butting bricks in the hopes of saving Princess Peach. This title was released in 2006, and has sold over 30.7 million copies. ...
