5. The UT Tower Shooting

18 killed - August 1, 1966 - University of Texas. Charles Joseph Whitman, a former U.S. Marine, kills 16 and wounds at least 30 from a university tower, picking off people from distances of up to 1500 feet away. Whitman had also killed his mother and wife earlier in the day. Whitman was able to fire shots for nearly two hours and was coined ‘The Texas Bell Tower Sniper’ following the massacre.

4. San Ysidro McDonald’s Massacre

21 killed - July 18, 1984 - In San Ysidro, California. 41-year-old James Huberty, armed with a long-barreled Uzi, a pump-action shotgun and a handgun shoots and kills 21 adults and children at a local McDonalds. A police sharpshooter kills Huberty one hour after the rampage begins. The San Ysidro McDonald’s Massacre remains the deadliest shooting in American history, in which the criminal died by police and not by suicide.

3. Luby’s Massacre

23 killed - October 16, 1991 - In Killeen, Texas. 35-Year-old George Hennard crashes his pickup truck through the wall of a Lubys Cafeteria. After exiting the truck, Hennard shoots and kills 23 people. After exchanging shots with officers, Hennard hid in a bathroom and shortly after, committed suicide. The Luby Massacre remains the deadliest non-school shooting in American history.

27 killed - December 14, 2012 - Sandy Hook Elementary School - Newtown, Connecticut. Adam Lanza, 20, guns down 20 children, ages 6 and 7, and six adults, school staff and faculty, before turning the gun on himself. Investigating police later find Nancy Lanza, Adam's mother, dead from a gunshot wound. Of the twenty-seven victims, twenty of them were children between the ages of six and seven...

32 killed - April 16, 2007 - Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. A gunman, 23-year-old student Seung-Hui Cho, goes on a shooting spree killing 32 people in two locations and wounds an undetermined number of others on campus. About ten minutes after the second attack began, Cho shot himself in the head.

Schilling has said he invested as much as $50 million in 38 Studios and has lost all the money earned over his 20-year career.
Schilling already auctioned off the bloody sock he wore in the 2004 World Series while pitching on an injured ankle for $92,613...

Former Spanish tennis star Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario earned $17 million in prize money during her 17-year career that ended in 2002. She earned another $40 million in endorsements. In her memoirs she writes: "My parents left me with nothing and now I am in debt to the tax authorities."

Harrison was a British sniper assigned to Afghanistan. One day, he had a Taliban fighter in his sights at two miles away. Then Harrison noticed the friend of the guy he just wasted a little further back, and drilled him too. Two world record shots, the longest from 2707 yards...

During WW2, Murphy's unit was down to 19 men out of 128. They couldn't fight, they needed to rearm, and they needed somebody to hold the line. So Murphy stayed behind, shooting Germans until he ran out of ammo. Then, deciding he wasn't done killing Germans, he jumped onto a burning tank and started using its .50 caliber machine gun. Murphy escaped and later starred in a movie about himself!

3. Peter Francisco

Francisco was an American soldier in the American Revolutionary War. He pretty much killed eleven enemy soldiers with his bare hands and a broadsword. But was severely wounded and sent home. On his way home, he came across a British raiding party of eleven men. Even though Francisco was severely wounded, they didn't stand a chance: Francisco killed one, wounded eight, and just to rub it in, stole all their horses and delivered them to the American army.

2. Alvin York

York and his unit were trapped by German machine guns during WW1, so he began sniping the Germans out of their nest with his standard-issue rifle while politely asking them to surrender. Instead they sent eight men with fixed bayonets to kill him, so he drew his pistol and drilled all eight. Eventually the German Commander, after running out ammo, decided to surrender. So York, and the seven guys he had left, captured the remaining 132 Germans...

Charles Upham from New-Zealand is the only person who won the Victoria Cross twice during WW2. He was known for his complete indifference to danger. He loved to use grenades and during one of the battles he was involved in, he used them to blow up 3 machine gun nests single handedly. He escaped from POW camps a number of times, including once when he jumped out the back of a moving truck, broke his ankle, and still kept running...

This butterfly with transparent wings has a Spanish name: "espejitos," which means "little mirrors." Adult glasswing butterflies will often migrate great distances, and males of the species are known to lek, or gather in large groups for the purpose of competitive mating displays. Wow, just WOW!

The crocodile icefish are found in the cold waters around Antarctica and southern South America. Their blood is filled with anti-freeze, but no red blood cells. This is what gives them their transparent appearance.

Funniest Prison Escape Fails. These terrible escape attempts are all funny as hell. Horrible escape attempts that were bound to fail! But it makes for a funny fail video for us so keep trying prisoners!


5. The Wrong Door

James Edward Russell was home free. After he safely snuck out the Olympic Corrections Center in Washington, he put the final phase of his escape plan into action... From the prison, Russell had found his way to the a campground some 14 miles away. While still wearing his prison uniform, he knocked on the doors of one of the cabins, which was then opened by... A Guard! The guard tackled Russell and a few hours later, he was back "home".

4. Hole in the Wall

Four men in a Brazilian prison hatched a scheme to bust out of jail. They managed to dig a hole in the wall, but when Rafael Valadao got stuck, their plan fell apart. He was left with his upper body hanging outside of the prison while he was trapped by the hole in the wall around his midriff. He suffered a nasty gash in his shoulder and broke a rib. Prison guards who heard the commotion, called the Fire Department to help him out, but not before posing for a few pictures... :)

Chris Crego might still be roaming the world as a fugitive if not for one major asinine decision. Crego wasn't even in a heap of trouble to begin with. He initially planned to plead guilty for his part in a bar room brawl but then chose to go on the run and made an early strategic error when he posted his location on Facebook. He was hiding out in Terre Haut, Indiana and for some reason, posted his whereabouts, as well as his work schedule on Facebook. Chris too was send "home" shortly after...

2. The Oregon Trail

In June 2010, Robert Emery fooled the guards at Oregon State Prison into thinking he was in bed by using a dummy. The guards apparently had never visited Alcatraz because surprisingly, that part of the plan came together for Robert! He was able to break into the tool closet, broke windows and bashed a hole in the wall undetected. That's when poor Robert got tired, decided to take a nap and was found under a blanket...

1. Snoopy to the Rescue

According to the British newspaper "The Telegraph" a man dressed as Snoopy tried to break his buddy free from prison in 2010 in England. This poorly thought out plan failed on a couple of levels. Firstly, he tried to break into the wrong prison; his buddy was housed in a completely different jail as it turned out. Secondly, the gun he had turned out to be a water pistol, which is no match for real guns and trained prison guards... He was arrested and held under the mental health act. Seems fitting to us!
